Concept Development
I explored various forms of balance. Some of the ideas focus on encouraging interactions that break balance, some of them resembles visual balance, and others imply balance by using contrasting elements. The concept I chose implies balance by playing with lightness and darkness: it has two dark-colored and opaque shades, but it lets light shine through between the gap of the two layers.

Making the Lamp
After all the planning, it was time for building the actual lamp prototype. I started from making a rough foam model to finalize the dimensions of Arctic.


Moving on to the actual lamp shades; those were made by vacuum forming Acrylic pieces on top of a CNC-milled foam positive mold. After confirming all the components were working as intended, I added finishing touches like priming and painting to the prototype, and the lamp was completed.
