Stratos Wallet

Stratos Wallet is a cryptocurrency wallet for managing STOS, the Web3 project’s own token to be used alongside their decentralized storage technology.

The brief: refine + expand

Stratos had already started the development of their web wallet when the project started, so my part of work focused on two parts:

  1. Modifying and refining existing web wallet UI/UX
  2. Designing a new set of mobile interfaces for the mobile web version and a future native app

Desktop – the refinement

Stratos had a set of brand colors they used for their website, but it wasn’t used in the under-development wallet prototype when I joined the project; so first thing we did together was to standardize all the UI components and make sure all pages are designed under a consistent style.

Optimizing interactions and UI behaviors was also a big part of the project. This involved taking a close look at more granular details like how the wallet selector should react when different buttons are clicked, with the help of flow maps like this:

Interactive protytpes were also used to visualize and evaluate the design.

Mobile – The expansion

Although this is the “second part” of the project, the mobile interface design of Stratos Wallet began at the same time with its desktop counterpart. Many components were designed to adapt well between different screen sizes.

Originally we wanted to use a same navigation pattern across all platforms to save some development effort – and quickly realized it doesn’t work as well on mobile. A bottom tab + floating button navigation was therefore used instead.

Other than this major difference, most of the pages are a direct translation from desktop to mobile, with some notable exceptions like the mobile-exclusive settings page.

Result

Stratos Wallet has been released (yay!) and the desktop apps are available at https://www.thestratos.org/stratos-network-wallet.
